The Western Regional Office of National Security has uncovered a significant cache of suspected stolen electrical materials at Kansawurodo, a suburb of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
The discovery was made on April 7, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation that led officers to a concealed location within an uncompleted building. The site is reportedly linked to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Recovered items include 46 cable drums, electrical switches, meter boxes, meter cases, iron angle bars, and other valuable components associated with ECG infrastructure.
Two individuals have been arrested and are currently assisting with investigations. One suspect, Evans Lartey, claims to be a certified ECG contractor and insists his involvement in the supply chain was legitimate.
According to National Security operative Hashim Torkonu, initial assessments suggest possible misappropriation of ECG property.
The Regional Security Coordinator is expected to consult with the National Security headquarters in Accra for further directives.
As of now, no individual has officially claimed ownership of the recovered items, and local residents say they are unaware of the materials’ origin.
The ongoing investigation seeks to determine the source and legality of the items, which could have serious implications for the ECG and the surrounding community.
