NIA Staff suspend strike after directive from National Labour Commission

The staff of the National Identification Authority (NIA) have decided to end their indefinite strike, which they declared on Monday, June 10, 2024. They made this decision based on their upcoming discussions with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on Friday, June 14, 2024.

In a statement on Wednesday, June 12, the staff explained that the suspension was due to interventions from various stakeholders, including the Minister of National Security, an invitation from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to the negotiation table, advice from the mother union following the ruling of the National Labour Commission, and public support from concerned Ghanaians.

The staff also mentioned that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has promised to negotiate in good faith in their upcoming discussions. However, they emphasized that the government’s commitment will be tested on Friday, June 14, 2024.

The staff assured their members that if the government fails to grant them Institution Specific Allowances after the negotiations on Friday, they will not hesitate to resume their industrial action.
