Perseus Mining Ghana Limited organized a program themed “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience” to observe World Environmental Day, which falls on 5th June.
The program was held at Denkyira Gyaman in the Upper Denkyira West of the Central Region. Notable dignitaries present to support the success of the program and give their take on Environmental Protection Awareness included Nana Boa Agyakoh (III), Nana Mintaa (Gyaamanhemaa), and Hon. Richmond Koduah, the DCE for Upper Denkyira West.
The General Manager for Perseus Mining Limited, Mr. Daniel Agya Mensah, stated that their main motive for the 2024 celebration is to educate and create awareness about the impact of Land Desertification.
“Ghana is naturally blessed with greenery and resources that protect the land from degradation. Therefore, cutting down trees and destroying the land with illegal mining will only pave the way for bad weather and climate disruptions,” he added.
Nana Boa Agyarko III advised that protecting trees and lands with our resources will help to reduce polluted water bodies and leave behind a better country for future generations.
Hon. Richmond Koduah emphasized that trees are vital for human survival on earth, and therefore, it is important to plant more trees and protect them. He also encouraged Ghanaians to participate in the 2024 Green Ghana Day by planting at least one tree for the future.
