EC has announced that the election date of December 7 will be changed, but not this year.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the proposal to move the date of general elections from December 7 to November may not come into effect this year.

The Deputy Chairman of Corporate Services at the Electoral Commission, Eric Asare Bossman, has announced that the commission will be submitting legislation for the implementation of a change soon. “This is something the commission is going to trigger within the last few months,” said Dr Bossman.

In January, the Commission proposed a change in the date for elections and suggested that the designated election days should be national holidays. These proposals were presented during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Monday, January 22nd, 2024. The Deputy EC Chairman clarified that the new date for elections will be in November, but not on November 7th as it was widely speculated.
