Suspended Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Ofosu Agyare, has urged his supporters to halt calls for him to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries in the constituency, citing the need for party unity.
The appeal follows calls by some supporters for him to seek the party’s parliamentary candidacy after several candidates perceived to be aligned with him won positions in the recent constituency executive elections.
In a statement to his followers, Mr Agyare expressed appreciation to those who had encouraged him to contest the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat but asked them to discontinue the campaign to allow the newly elected constituency executives, working with the sitting Member of Parliament, Ms Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, to unite the party and rebuild its strength.
“I sincerely appreciate everyone who has expressed confidence in me and called on me to contest for the position of Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency (ASEC). Your encouragement and support mean a great deal to me,” he stated.
He, however, urged party members to prioritise the collective interest of the NDC over individual ambitions and support the new constituency leadership in carrying out its mandate.
The development comes amid tensions between Mr Agyare and the sitting MP, which intensified following his suspension in June 2026, ahead of the constituency executive elections. The suspension prevented him from seeking a third term as constituency chairman.
