The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an attack on a District Police Patrol Team at Bepotenten Sukuum in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Thursday, January 23, during a routine patrol, when the officers retrieved a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and directed him to inform the owner to report to the police station with the necessary documentation.

According to the Police, the patrol team was confronted on their return by a group of about 100 civilians, some of whom were believed to be armed with cutlasses and firearms. The group reportedly blocked the road, assaulted the officers, and seized a service rifle.

The Police said the confrontation led to two persons sustaining gunshot injuries, including the individual who allegedly took the service weapon. The rifle was later retrieved.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has condemned the attack and cautioned the public against acts of violence against security personnel, warning that those found culpable would be arrested and prosecuted.
