A dramatic incident unfolded in Bibiani Old Town, in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai municipality of the Western North Region, when a mining explosion sent a massive rock crashing into a home narrowly missing a 3-year-old boy.
The blast, carried out by Asante Gold Bibiani Limited, has sparked serious concerns about safety in the community.
Edwine Cyril Young, the child’s father, explained that they had just stepped out of their room after hearing a warning about the scheduled explosion. Moments later, a large rock crashed into their house, barely missing his son.
“We rushed outside after hearing the warning. Just after the blast, a huge rock flew into our home. It could have killed my son,” Mr. Young recounted.
Frightened residents are now appealing to authorities to resettle them urgently before a more serious disaster occurs.
“We are not safe. Our lives are in danger every day. We are pleading with the authorities to move us to a safer place before something worse happens,” one resident said.
The community is calling on President Mahama, the Minerals Commission, and Asante Gold Bibiani Limited to take immediate action to address their safety concerns.
As pressure mounts, residents are hoping that their cries for help will not be ignored.
