A fatal road accident near the Kasoa tollbooth in the Central Region on Sunday has resulted in multiple deaths and left several others in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses reported that the crash happened when a Sprinter minibus with registration number GW 7455-18, traveling toward Kasoa, collided with the rear of a Jeep 4×4 (GR 7673), which was allegedly reversing on the highway.
The impact of the crash caused the minibus, which was reportedly full of passengers, to somersault several times before coming to a stop in a severely mangled state. Several passengers are said to have died immediately, while others sustained serious injuries and were trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency responders, with assistance from local residents, arrived at the scene to help rescue survivors. Paramedics faced challenges securing a referral for one of the critically injured victims after initial treatment at the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic, as no major hospital was immediately available to take the patient. The delay reportedly lasted nearly an hour.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the number of casualties or the circumstances that led to the accident.
