A commercial bus with registration number GE-8264-19, traveling from Accra to Sefwi Asawinso, was gutted by fire on Thursday morning around 7:50 a.m.
According to passengers, smoke began billowing from the rear of the vehicle, but despite their pleas, the driver did not stop immediately. He later attributed the fire to a damaged fan belt but declined to speak on record.
Confirming the incident, the Western North Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Philip Kudzo Amagnoh, disclosed that the only operational fire tender in the region broke down while en route to the scene. He emphasized the urgent need for government to equip the Ghana National Fire Service with reliable resources to effectively respond to emergencies.
Though no casualties were recorded, several passengers lost personal belongings to the blaze.
