The Ghana Police Service, with support from the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force, has rescued two kidnapped women following the circulation of a viral video online.
Eight suspects linked to the kidnapping have been arrested during a coordinated rescue operation across Ghana and Nigeria.
One of the victims, 39-year-old Ama Serwaa Konadu a hairdresser and event decorator from Asiakwa in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region was reportedly kidnapped on her way to work on April 22.
A disturbing video surfaced online shortly after her disappearance, showing her being assaulted by her captors. In the video, the kidnappers demanded a GH₵500,000 ransom and claimed she was being held in Nigeria.
The victim’s family immediately alerted authorities and submitted the video, which prompted a full-scale investigation by the police.
In a recent statement, the Ghana Police Service confirmed that arrests were made at various hideouts in both countries. The police have pledged to provide further updates as investigations continue.
The Ghana Police Service has also expressed gratitude to the National Signals Bureau and the Nigeria Police Force for their collaboration and support in the successful rescue effort.
