Mohammed Zakou, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist, has been granted bail in the sum of GHC 100,000 after being charged with spreading false news regarding Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s health on Facebook.

Zakou reportedly posted, “Rest Well Her Excellency” accompanied by crying emojis—a message widely interpreted as a false announcement of the Vice President’s death, despite official reports confirming that she was unwell but recovering.

He was arrested on Saturday, April 12, and subsequently charged with the offense of publishing false news.

The Achimota Circuit Court later granted him bail with two sureties and ordered him to report weekly to the investigator handling the case.

The case has been adjourned to May 12, 2025, for a case management conference
