Inhabitants of the Amenfi West Municipality in Ghana’s Western Region have organized a protest, donning red scarves and clothing, to demand the removal of Hon. Priscilla Yorke as their Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee.
The residents’ concerns regarding Hon. Priscilla Yorke center on her alleged lack of experience and disconnection from the party’s grassroots.
They claim that Hon. Yorke, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), lacks the necessary experience for the role and has allegedly distanced herself from the party’s base.
Protesters appealed to the President and the leadership of the NDC to immediately replace her.
NDC members in the municipality, in particular, demonstrated against the President’s nominee and threatened to boycott her confirmation if she is not replaced.
“We need someone with confidence and experience to lead us not someone who can be easily influenced to make decisions serving selfish interests,” one resident said.
The protest erupted while the assembly was publicly announcing Hon. Priscilla Yorke’s nomination as the President’s choice for MCE.
