Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has expressed gratitude to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his support following an attempted arrest by National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) officials. The incident, which took place at the MP’s Spintex residence, has sparked public outcry and renewed debate over parliamentary immunity and abuse of power.

Fordjour, who serves as Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, accused the NDC government of targeting opposition MPs to weaken parliamentary oversight, calling the attempt a “lawless act of harassment.” Party leaders, including NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua and former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, rallied at the scene, questioning the legality of the operation and confirming that no arrest warrant was presented.

The controversy has intensified scrutiny of the government’s use of state security agencies and raised broader concerns about the rule of law.
