The Municipal Fire Safety Officer in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region, ADO1 John Essel, shared insights on the municipality’s fire incidents in the first quarter of 2025 during an interview on Denkyiraman Radio.
According to Mr. Essel, there are so many factors that contribute to the outbreak of fire, and individual unawareness and deliberate actions are mostly what causes the fires.
Out of the 15 recorded fire incidents, 4 were domestic fires, with 2 being major and 2 minor.
Commercial fires accounted for 5 incidents, while bush fires made up 3, and 1 incident was a false alarm.
ADO1 Essel attributed some of the commercial fires to electrical faults, deliberate accidents, and unawareness of proper electrical device usage.
Despite the incidents, he commended the municipality for their efforts in fire prevention,
stating, ‘I’d applaud the people for taking our education seriously… 2025 has started well with the education given over the last couple of months.”
This follows a decrease from 16 fire incidents in the first quarter of 2024.
Additionally, Mr John Essel provided an update on the new fire service office, currently under construction.
The officers are expected to move in soon, with the contractor completing 70% of the work.
However, the regional headquarters must approve the exact commissioning time for the building,” he concluded.
