Foreign Affairs Minister nominee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has strongly dismissed allegations that he was not scheduled to appear before the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30. His response follows claims by Deputy Majority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, suggesting that Ablakwa’s presence at the vetting session was unauthorized, sparking controversy. However, Ablakwa, who appeared before the Committee on Friday, January 31, insists he was officially invited and did not “sneak in,” as alleged.

Expressing his displeasure, Ablakwa described the accusations as baseless and damaging to his reputation. “I am not some hooligan who will be smuggled into the Appointments Committee’s meeting to be vetted,” he asserted. He further revealed that even his chiefs and respected diplomats were concerned by the claims, questioning the legitimacy of his invitation.

Ablakwa has, therefore, demanded an unqualified apology from Afenyo-Markin, stating that such allegations were unwarranted and unacceptable. Meanwhile, Afenyo-Markin had earlier held a press conference, claiming that Ablakwa and other nominees were not on the approved list for Thursday’s vetting, casting doubt over the legitimacy of his appearance before the Committee.
