The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the parliamentary results for the Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central constituencies to be illegal and invalid.
Samuel Tettey, the Deputy EC Chair for Operations, made this announcement during a press briefing in Accra on Friday.
Tettey explained that out of the 12 constituencies requiring re-collation of parliamentary results, three have been successfully completed: Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North. However, re-collation is still pending for Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, and Techiman South.
He emphasized that the re-collation processes in the Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central constituencies did not adhere to the established procedures outlined in CI 127, despite police presence at the collation centers to assist the commission staff.
Tettey stated, “The centers were again besieged by party supporters who took over the process and forced out staff to declare the results for their preferred candidates.”
He further noted that in all four cases, the procedures of CI 127 were ignored, and EC officers faced threats to declare winners without following the required protocols.
Tettey concluded, “It is therefore the commission’s determination that the collations and declarations, which did not adhere to the established procedures, are illegal and cannot be upheld by the commission since the processes for collation and declaration as set out in CI 127 were violated.”
