Prisons Officer Lynched in Kasoa After Mistaken Identity as Thief; Family Demands Justice

A prisons officer named Gideon Adu Boakye was reportedly lynched at Iron City, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region. The deceased officer was stationed at the Nsawam prisons in the Eastern Region.

A video shared by Metro TV showed the body of the deceased found by residents in a newly constructed culvert at the junction of Hope of Restoration School in Red Ball, a suburb of Iron City in Kasoa, a few streets away from the deceased officer’s home. The body had severe machete wounds and was retrieved by personnel of the Ngleshi Amafro police command.

At the time his body was found, his identity and what led to his death were unknown. However, an update as of today, 3rd October, indicates that Gideon Adu was on his way home from duty when he was mobbed by some residents who considered him a thief and ambushed and killed him instantly.

It was reported that he tried to reveal his identity as an officer by shouting “I’m not a thief,” but all efforts to free himself proved futile. This information was revealed when his family went to lodge a complaint about him going missing at Nglesshi Amnafro police station.

The family is pleading with the police to conduct strict investigations into the matter and to arrest the perpetrators, suspecting that his murder was a deliberate act.

“We just pray that God touches our hearts. We plead with the prison officers to get involved; it can happen to anyone. We plead with the police to get involved and catch the perpetrators of this act. Gideon is gone, and we can’t bring him back, but we will be very happy to see that the culprits are brought to book,” they cried out.

The report added that the deceased officer was described by his neighbours as kind-hearted and gentle, and due to that, they have joined the cause to have his killers arrested and face the law.
