The flag bearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia has addressed the Nation today 7th February 2024, in Accra UPSA, themed “Bold Solutions for the Future”. Graced with personalities from his camp and a notable number of NPP Gurus like; Her Excellency the First Lady Rebecca Akuffo Addo, the Second Lady Samira Bawumia, Hon. Stephen Ayensu Ntim, the National NPP Chairman, the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and Ex-President John Agyekum Kuffuor with many other caucuses.
The Vice President giving his speech started by acknowledging the President, “I am eternally grateful to the President of Ghana for allowing me to be vice President” he said.
He continued to say that the economy is recovering from the crisis, said inflation has declined, growth is rebounding, spending is under control and fiscal deficit has fallen, these and other achievements under the Nana Addo Danquah administration he mentioned.
Dr. Bawumia added that most of the economic crisis can be solved through digitalization, thus his reasons for making it a key priority when elected to office as president.
Mobile money interoperability has promoted a cashless society therefore will be improved by the year.
“We have solved problems of financial exclusion in Ghana”.
The Vice President said Ghana ranks Sixth in terms of E-commerce in Africa now under his watch.
Stating his vision for the future under his leadership, Dr Bawumia said he has a solid track record in combating corruption in Ghana.
“There will be no emissions levy under my administration”. There will be no taxes on digital payments, therefore e-levy will be abolished. Says Veep.
Dr Bawumia noted the fact that he’s just a “driver’s mate” now but if voted into power he would introduce a simple, business and citizen-friendly flat tax regime with a percentage of income for individuals and SMEs which constitutes 98% for all businesses in Ghana.
“ I want to formalize the economy through digitalization in Ghana. (We are bringing Abrokyire to Ghana )” Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The vice President after stating his visions and plans on education, health, business development, finances, tax policies, digitization programs and international trade relations for his presidency, was applauded and cheered for his efforts and visionary leadership yet to be achieved. He crowned it all saying that he’s prepared and ready to do the work if given the opportunity.
