Former Minister of Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to put aside their differences and unite behind the party’s flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued on Friday, Dr. Acheampong, who contested the NPP’s January 2026 presidential primary, appealed to fellow aspirant Kennedy Agyapong to temper recent tensions within the party and use his influence to promote reconciliation. He acknowledged Mr. Agyapong’s disappointment following the contest and described his concerns as genuine but stressed that internal disputes should not overshadow the party’s broader objective of rebuilding after its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Acheampong admitted that some supporters associated with various campaigns, including his own, made disrespectful remarks about Mr. Agyapong during and after the primaries. However, he maintained that there was no evidence that Dr. Bawumia sanctioned or encouraged such attacks, adding that the actions of a few individuals should not be attributed to the party’s flagbearer or the NPP as a whole. He urged all factions within the party to forgive past grievances, close ranks behind Dr. Bawumia, and work together to restore the NPP to power in the 2028 elections.
