MCE Frederick Korankye Refutes Ablakwa’s Allegations of NPP Campaign Funding Through Mining License

The Municipal Chief Executive of Wassa Amenfi East Constituency, Hon. Frederick Korankye, also known as KK, has responded to allegations made by the member of parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa. Ablakwa accused the small scale mining license obtained by Kofreze Construction and Engineering Service Ltd. of being a way for the NPP government to fund NPP campaign activities in the 2024 general election.

Korankye stated, “I initially thought to let this slide because Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa has on numerous occasions made unsubstantiated allegations against many high-profile individuals without any proof. However, for the sake of my integrity, I need to set the record straight.”

He clarified that Kofreze Limited was established in 2015 and expanded to include construction and haulage companies in 2017. Their business activities cover food and beverage production, fuel station operation, construction, haulage and transport service, consultancy service, mining and mining services, washing bay and lube services, and general merchandise.

The Managing Directors of Kofreze Group have expertise in Project Management, Development Studies, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Mine and Mining Services, I.T, and other fields to provide expert advice for the management of their businesses.

Before his appointment as Municipal Chief Executive of Amenfi East in April 2021, Korankye had over 20 years of experience in mining and mining-related activities. He emphasized that he had filed his asset declaration, including Kofreze group of companies, and stated that there is nothing wrong with an MCE doing business alongside his political career.

He also stressed that their business has no political affiliations or support and the mining license was obtained on merit, meeting all necessary requirements. Additionally, he pointed out that the concession is neither in the forest nor close to any water body and is currently under development.

Korankye called out Hon. Ablakwa to provide evidence for his claims within 48 hours or issue an apology, while he continues to engage his legal team for further action. This statement came after several remarks from Hon. Okudzeto in an interview on Tv3’s political show, where he alleged that most MMDCEs have been issued licenses to operate in illegal/legal mining to support the party in the 2024 elections since the start of 2024, specifically mentioning the Hon. MCE in Wassa Amenfi East who started his operation in March 2024.
