New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has donated critical navigation equipment to the Volta Lake Transport Company (VLTC) at the Adawso ferry station, following a distress call from station officials over safety challenges on the lake.
The donation was presented during a brief ceremony aboard the pontoon that ferries passengers and goods between Adawso in the Kwahu West District and Ekye in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District.
Dr. Acheampong expressed deep concern about the absence of such essential safety equipment, describing the situation as “scary and alarming.”
“When Station Officer Isaac Souzey came to me with this request, I was alarmed. He described a terrible situation that posed great danger to human lives and goods crossing the Volta River. I knew I had to respond. Today, I am here to honour a promise I made to the workers and all who rely on this pontoon,” he stated.
He urged the pontoon’s Captain, Osafo Kennedy, Station Officer Isaac Souzey, and all VLTC staff to ensure proper maintenance of the equipment to enhance safety and prevent accidents on the lake.
Officials of the VLTC commended Dr. Acheampong for his timely intervention, describing it as a practical and lifesaving support that would greatly improve navigation and reduce risks on the Volta Lake.
