More than 500 young members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have declared their support for Dr Bryan Acheampong as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

The endorsement was announced at a press conference in Kumasi, described by organisers as the “political nerve centre” of Ghana and the stronghold of the NPP tradition.

The gathering brought together 20 constituency youth organisers, regional executives, constituency leaders, polling station workers, and hundreds of party faithful.

Speaking on behalf of the youth, the conveners said Dr Acheampong embodies the temperament and conciliatory spirit needed to prevent post-election divisions within the party.

“Already, emerging rivalries among aspirants portend a perilous path toward fragmentation if not carefully managed,” they cautioned. “But in the towering figure of Dr Bryan Acheampong, we discern the only candidate who can mend divisions, heal wounds, and forge a unified party machinery.”

The group also pointed to Dr Acheampong’s track record of achievements, citing:

  • The launch of Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II (PFJ 2.0) with a comprehensive value-chain credit system for farmers.
  • Expansion of irrigation projects to promote all-year farming and food security.
  • Reforms at COCOBOD that improved cocoa pricing and protected farmers’ livelihoods.
  • Chairmanship of the Côte d’Ivoire–Ghana Cocoa Initiative, which strengthened Ghana’s role in global cocoa negotiations.
  • Support for rural livelihoods under the ESRF programme during the COVID-19 pandemic.
