The Prestea District Police in the Western Region have arrested four suspected armed robbers, including two soldiers, following a foiled robbery attempt at LongShine Mining Company Limited at Obouhu, near Prestea.

Police reports indicate that the suspects were part of a six-member gang, made up of two military personnel and four civilians, who launched an attack on the mining concession on Sunday night, September 28, 2025, between 10:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The armed group allegedly brutalized security guards on duty and demanded to be shown the company’s gold room.

Two of the civilian suspects escaped during the operation and remain at large. The other four two soldiers and two civilians were overpowered and arrested. They have since been moved from the Prestea Police Command to the Tarkwa Divisional Police Headquarters to assist with investigations.

The gang used a recently rented Toyota pickup with registration number GN 6116-25 for the operation. Police have impounded the vehicle as evidence.

Some of the security officers who were assaulted during the incident recounted how the armed men subjected them to severe beatings before forcing them to lead the way to the gold storage facility.

Mr. Gideon Ofori, a Tailing Officer with LongShine Mining Company, also confirmed the incident and expressed deep concern about the alleged involvement of serving military officers in the robbery attempt.

The police have assured that a manhunt is underway for the two fugitives who managed to escape arrest.
