The Assin Nsuaem Kyekyewere Circuit Court in Ghana’s Central Region has sentenced two individuals, Stephen Adu-Gyamfi (26) and Samuel Amoah (28), to 20 years in prison for stealing electrical cables from construction sites in Assin Edubiase.
Presided over by His Lordship Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, the court found the two guilty on multiple charges, including cable theft, unlawful entry, abetment of crime, and conspiracy.
According to court proceedings, the convicts stole electrical cables valued at GH¢20,000 from a two-storey uncompleted building owned by Mr. Aayiretuo and his brother on June 30, 2025. They returned the following day, July 1, 2025, and stole additional cables worth GH¢30,000.
Investigations revealed that the duo would burn the stolen cables to strip off insulation, selling the bare copper wires to scrap dealers and sharing the profits.
On July 3, 2025, Stephen Adu-Gyamfi alone was caught by residents after stealing copper wires worth GH¢1,500 from a Pentecost Church building under construction in the same area.
In a separate incident, two friends Emmanuel Aidoo and Romeo Odei Martin have also been sentenced to four years in prison for stealing a motorbike valued at GH¢13,000 at Assin Endwa.
Meanwhile, two construction workers, William Tweneboah and Godfred Amoh, are currently on trial for the alleged theft of an excavator from a road construction site at Assin Nduaso.
