Former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has paid a courtesy call on His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, Ghana’s former President, at his residence in Peduase in the Eastern Region.

The visit, which forms part of the Abetifi MP’s ongoing consultations ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries in January 2026, was aimed at seeking President Kufuor’s guidance, wisdom, and blessings.

It also reflects Dr. Acheampong’s deep respect for party elders and his commitment to drawing on the experience of those who have steered both party and nation through critical moments in Ghana’s democratic history.

President Kufuor, known for his statesmanship and legacy of good governance, warmly received Dr. Acheampong and offered insightful counsel on leadership, public service, and party unity.

This meaningful engagement underscores Dr. Acheampong’s humility, strategic foresight, and readiness to lead with the support and blessing of the party’s most revered figures. It marks a significant milestone in a campaign grounded in legacy and focused on Ghana’s future.

Earlier today, June 24, at his Secretariat in Accra, Dr. Bryan Acheampong officially declared his intent to contest the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries, slated for January 31, 2026.

He made the declaration during a meeting with the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, underscoring his roots and values as a product of the Church.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Dr. Acheampong explained that his decision was based on findings from an exploratory committee that spent a month engaging NPP delegates across the country.

“A decision has been made that I will contest when the party opens nominations,” he stated. “But as a product of the Presbyterian Church, it would be inappropriate for the Moderator to first hear about it through the media. That’s why I’ve come to inform him personally.”

He added that feedback from delegates revealed a strong desire for a leader with his experience and capabilities qualities he believes are in line with what the party currently needs.
