Authorities in the Western North Region have taken a 30-year-old man, Ibrahim Mohammed, into custody in connection with the alleged murder of 62-year-old Seidu Mumuni.

The incident unfolded on Thursday night at Sehwi Yawmatwa in the Bia West District.

Witnesses report that Ibrahim, purportedly under the influence of substances, launched an unprovoked attack on Seidu Mumuni, who had earlier intervened when Ibrahim was allegedly harassing local children.

The altercation turned fatal when Ibrahim struck Seidu Mumuni on the head, inflicting severe injuries.

Rushed to the hospital, Seidu Mumuni was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In the aftermath of the incident, outraged community members detained Ibrahim and administered severe physical punishment before relinquishing him to law enforcement.

Given the severity of his injuries, Ibrahim was subsequently transported to Essam Government Hospital for medical treatment, where he remains under police supervision.

The Assemblyman for Sehwi Yawmatwa, Abass Mohammed Ayariga, revealed to the media that the suspect, known for causing trouble, especially when under the influence of drugs, has been a longstanding concern for the community.

Following the incident, law enforcement has initiated an investigation, and the body of the victim, Seidu Mumuni, has been taken to the Essam Government Hospital morgue for further examination.
