The National Tripartite Committee has announced a 10% increase in the National Daily Minimum Wage, raising it to GH₵19.97 effective March 1, 2025. This adjustment is aimed at helping workers cope with the rising cost of living while balancing the sustainability of businesses. The decision was reached after consultations between the government, employers, and labour unions to ensure fair compensation without jeopardizing job security.
In a major relief for low-income workers, Labour Minister Dr. Pelpuo, Ghana Employers Association President Nana Dr. Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodee, and TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah have confirmed that the 2025 minimum wage will be completely tax-free. This means workers earning the minimum wage will take home their full pay without deductions. The Labour Minister also warned that any institution failing to comply with the new wage policy will face legal consequences.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson acknowledged the economic challenges faced by both businesses and employees, emphasizing the government’s commitment to economic recovery. He assured employers that measures would be taken to support businesses, ensuring they can sustain operations and continue creating job opportunities for Ghanaians.
