Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on President John Dramani Mahama to uphold his promise of being a leader for all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation. He is urging the President to reverse the recent mass dismissal of public sector workers who were employed during the previous administration. According to Dr. Bawumia, these individuals were hired based on merit and qualifications, and their abrupt termination without just cause undermines democratic principles and fairness.
The controversy arose following a directive from the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, ordering the immediate revocation of public sector appointments made in the final days of the previous administration. This decision has sparked widespread backlash, with Dr. Bawumia now adding his voice to the concerns. He emphasized that a government that campaigned on job creation should focus on providing employment opportunities rather than terminating the jobs of hardworking citizens. He described the move as contradictory to the ruling party’s promises and called for urgent intervention.
Dr. Bawumia further warned about the growing incidents of politically motivated violence, where organized groups are allegedly targeting individuals and state institutions. He urged President Mahama to foster unity and prioritize the interests of the nation over partisan politics. Stressing the need for a just and inclusive society, he called on the President to take immediate action to reinstate the dismissed workers and prevent further divisions within the country.
