The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a nationwide assessment initiative, starting today, Monday, January 27, to investigate the factors that led to its defeat in the 2024 general elections. Kofi Tonto, an aide to former Vice President and NPP Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, revealed during an interview on Denkyiraman Radio’s National Agenda that the exercise will involve touring all regions to engage party members and non-members to uncover the reasons behind the Party’s loss.

According to Tonto, the assessment will include direct discussions with regional and constituency representatives, as well as ordinary constituents, to gather comprehensive insights. He added that the process will involve both open dialogues and discreet engagements to identify critical issues that may have contributed to the Party’s defeat. “We want to know if our presumptions are correct and ensure there are no skeletons in the cupboard,” he explained.

The exercise, expected to last three months, will also examine claims that two million voters who supported former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in previous elections did not participate in the 2024 polls. Tonto emphasized the need for empirical research to validate these claims and understand voter behavior. “There’s been a lot of speculation, but mere rumors and hearsay can’t be used as evidence of our defeat,” he said.

Tonto highlighted the importance of unity, hard work, and selflessness in the NPP’s effort to regain power, stressing that the Party’s focus is not on waiting for the sitting government to fail but on proving its readiness to lead. He expressed optimism that the findings from the assessment would guide the NPP in rebuilding its strength and reconnecting with the electorate. “Togetherness, determination, and a clear understanding of the issues will bring us victory,” he concluded.
