Samuel Okudental O. Ablakwa, the chairman of the five-member committee established by President-elect John Mahama to investigate suspected corruption cases, has assured the public that the committee will operate with integrity and impartiality.

Ablakwa emphasized that the committee will function autonomously, striving to address the flaws within the system.

“We assure you that we are not embarking on a witch hunt. We will carry out our mandate honestly, impartially, and objectively,” he stated.

During an interview on Joy FM on Wednesday, December 18, Hon. Ablakwa encouraged the public to trust the committee, highlighting his track record in Parliament regarding accountability.

“You have followed the work that some of us have done in Parliament. It has always been about the evidence, the documentation, and what we intercept that will protect the public purse, expose corruption, and highlight wrongdoing, helping our country move forward. That is our motivation,” he noted.

The Member of Parliament stressed that the committee is not on a mission of “personal vendetta” nor aimed at targeting innocent individuals who have committed no crimes.

This committee represents President-elect Mahama’s first step in addressing corruption in Ghana, even before his inauguration on January 7, 2025.

The committee’s primary responsibility is to gather information and investigate suspected corruption cases and related issues.

Once the committee completes its investigations, Mr. Ablakwa explained that the cases will be forwarded to the incoming Attorney General and the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which will be established by the new government. These authorities will then conduct a thorough review of the cases and pursue prosecution if necessary.
