The Assin Fosu District Court has convicted three residents of Assin Breku for defrauding a trader of GH¢43,740 through a fraudulent electronic money transaction.
The convicts are Francis Appiah and Emmanuel Oteng, alias Flow Delfi, both 24-year-old footballers, and Emmanuel Antwi, a 21-year-old commercial motorbike rider.
The prosecution said the complainant, Shalean Stella Bamfo, a trader from Tarkwa, was deceived into transferring the money to various mobile money accounts after receiving a phone call from one of the convicts.
The caller allegedly claimed that he had mistakenly transferred money to her and requested that she refund it.
Investigations conducted by the Central North Regional Police Cybercrime Unit led to the arrest of the three convicts at Assin Breku.
The court ordered the convicts to refund the full amount of GH¢43,740, which they subsequently did.
In his ruling, His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu cautioned the three, noting that they were first-time offenders.
He warned that any future involvement in criminal activity could result in imprisonment and urged them to engage in lawful and productive work.
The court also commended the Central North Regional Police Cybercrime Unit for its efforts in combating cybercrime.
