A distribution truck loaded with assorted household products has been completely destroyed by fire at Habitat, a suburb of Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
The Tata truck, with registration number GT-6070-25, was carrying cartons of mosquito sprays, candles, air fresheners, batteries, insecticides, and other goods meant for distribution to shops in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver and sales officers had stopped to deliver goods when they discovered a damaged metal part on the vehicle. A welder was called in to repair the defect.
During the welding process, sparks reportedly ignited combustible materials inside the truck, causing a fire that spread rapidly through the vehicle. Several explosions were heard moments later, sending residents rushing to the scene to assist.
Despite efforts by residents and the use of fire extinguishers, the blaze intensified and completely destroyed the truck and its contents.
The Ghana National Fire Service later arrived and successfully brought the fire under control.
Speaking to the media, the welder, Master Kenneth, described the incident as unfortunate and heartbreaking, explaining that all attempts to extinguish the fire proved unsuccessful.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation, led by the Assin Fosu District Director, Lawrence Darkwa Monney, have visited the scene to assess the damage and investigate the cause of the fire.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution when carrying out welding activities near flammable materials.
