At least three people, including a woman and two children, were injured in a three-vehicle crash on the Atafoa Highway near Bantama in Kumasi on Tuesday morning.

The accident, which occurred around 6:30 a.m., involved a Sprinter bus (registration CR 1466-22), a Mitsubishi Lancer, and a taxi (AS 5533-19). Witnesses said the Sprinter, reportedly speeding, collided head-on with the Lancer, which was carrying a family heading to Barekese. The taxi was also caught in the impact.

The Lancer burst into flames after the collision, sparking an urgent rescue operation. Emergency responders and residents rushed to save the occupants before the injured were taken to the County Hospital in Kumasi for treatment.

“The Sprinter bus was coming from the lower side of the road while the Lancer approached from Akokospice. The two vehicles collided, and the impact also involved a nearby taxi,” an eyewitness, identified as Uncle Atta, told reporters.

He blamed the crash on speeding, noting that the woman and her children in the Lancer suffered severe injuries. “I’m appealing to drivers to take their time and drive safely. They are always speeding, and it’s putting lives at risk,” he said.

Emergency services remained at the scene at the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, residents are calling on security agencies to strictly enforce traffic regulations on the Atafoa Highway to curb speeding and prevent further accidents.
