Ghana’s Communications Minister, Sam Nettey-George, has assured the public that data prices will decrease by the end of 2025.
Speaking at the “World Telecommunications and Information Society Day” event on Monday, May 19, 2025, the Minister urged Ghanaians to remain patient as government follows a strategic roadmap aimed at reducing internet costs.
“My promise was that by the end of this year, we will see prices drop and my promise remains. Just trust the process,” he stated.
The assurance comes amid rising frustration over high data costs, with many Ghanaians, especially on social media, calling for immediate removal of tariffs they say contribute to a 39% increase in internet charges.
“I’ve been trending over the weekend on X because people think data costs must be cheaper by just the stroke of my pen,” Mr. Nettey-George remarked.
He acknowledged the public’s concerns but emphasized that a careful and strategic approach not a rushed one is needed to ensure sustainable price reductions.
