Zack, Chairman of the Dunkwa On-Offin Town Running Association in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality, has voiced strong concerns over the conduct of some drivers within the association, accusing them of putting personal gain above the welfare of the community.

According to him, certain drivers have been overcharging passengers by imposing arbitrary fares that go beyond the approved rates. He described these actions as corrupt practices that undermine the integrity of the association.

Zack emphasized that such behavior should not go unpunished, and called for appropriate sanctions to be imposed on drivers found guilty of such misconduct.

He also noted that although the association is aware of the issue, it has been unable to take disciplinary action because it is still in the process of formalizing its structure, including membership registration and operational policies.

When asked about standard taxi fares, Mr. Zack explained that for short distances, the approved fare ranges from GHC3.00 to GHC3.50, depending on the route. For longer distances, the agreed fare is GHC4.00.

He urged residents to play an active role in curbing the misconduct by reporting dishonest drivers. He encouraged passengers to take note of driver identification numbers issued by the association and report any irregularities to the appropriate authorities to help ensure accountability and transparency.
