The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander for Upper Denkyira East, DSP Michael Nkekesi, has called on relevant authorities to provide a pedestrian footbridge and traffic lights at the Dunkwa Central Market to ease persistent traffic congestion in the area.
He said the congestion, which involved both pedestrians and motorists, was particularly severe on market days and posed challenges to the smooth movement of people and vehicles.
DSP Nkekesi made the call in an interview with CJ on the National Agenda programme on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
He said although MTTD personnel were regularly deployed to the area to manage traffic, the increasing number of pedestrians and vehicles using the stretch made it difficult to effectively control the situation.
According to him, the provision of traffic lights and a pedestrian footbridge would help regulate vehicular movement, provide safer passage for pedestrians and reduce the risk of accidents around the busy market area.
DSP Nkekesi therefore appealed to the appropriate authorities to treat the provision of the facilities as a matter of urgency to address the persistent traffic situation at the market.
