Tragedy struck at a galamsey site in Sefwi Nambro, within the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, where a 38-year-old farmer, Kwadwo Kintoh, was allegedly shot by a suspected land guard.

According to eyewitnesses, the shooting occurred when an excavator was being used to create a pathway through the victim’s farm to access the nearby galamsey site, sparking a confrontation that ultimately led to the fatal incident.

The farmer, Kwadwo Kintoh, had reportedly resisted selling his land to the galamsey operators, citing an unacceptably low offer of compensation, which ultimately led to the tense confrontation.

The disagreement escalated into a heated altercation between the suspect and the farmer in the bush.

The suspect, who was armed with a pistol, fired a warning shot in an attempt to intimidate the farmer, but tragically missed his target and instead struck the farmer in the armpit.

Believing he had fatally shot the farmer, the suspect fled the scene in panic.

Meanwhile, the injured farmer mustered the strength to report the incident to the Bibiani Police.

Although no arrests have been made yet, authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be launched to apprehend the suspect and bring them to justice.
