The Accra High Court has given Gregory Afoko, accused of murdering former NPP Upper East Regional Chairman Adams Mahama, a GHC500,000 bail.
This means Afoko will be released from custody pending his trial, as long as he meets the bail conditions set by the court.
The court has set specific conditions for Gregory Afoko’s bail, including the requirement of two sureties who must own landed properties to justify the bond.
Additionally, Afoko must regularly check in with the authorities, reporting to either the chief investigator, the regional crime officer in Accra, or the Director General of the CID every two weeks until the case is concluded.
Gregory Afoko’s legal team submitted a bail application on Monday, February 17, marking his third attempt to secure bail since the commencement of his trial in 2015.
On April 27, 2023, a jury delivered a 4-verdict acquittal, finding Gregory Afoko not guilty of conspiracy to commit murder and murder.
After the jury delivered its verdict, the court ordered a retrial for Gregory Afako, while his alleged accomplice, Asabke Alangdi, received a death sentence following a guilty verdict.
