A fire swept through a 13-bedroom house in the Gaoline community of Oforikrom, located in the Ashanti Region, causing significant damage.

The blaze left residents in shock, destroying properties valued at thousands of Ghana cedis. The incident occurred around midday on Wednesday, February 5, and has rendered several families homeless, forcing them to search for their remaining possessions.

Witnesses reported that the fire spread through numerous buildings before it was brought under control by the KNUST fire station, preventing it from spreading to nearby houses.

“We just heard loud noises indicating that the building was on fire, so the local boys gathered to help control the spread until the fire service arrived to manage it,” one eyewitness recounted. “Most of the children were in school, and the adults were also out when the fire started.”

Madam Assana, whose sister was affected, shared her distress: “We couldn’t retrieve a single item from the room. My twin sister is pregnant, and hearing about the fire has deeply affected her. We couldn’t salvage much.”

The fire was extinguished within two hours by the fire service, which has now begun an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
