Police officers in the Ahafo Region have shot and killed three individuals in Acherensua.
The deceased were part of a group of eight people who allegedly went to the Newmont Ahafo South mines to engage in illegal mining activities, commonly known as “galamsey.”
The incident occurred around 7:00 PM on Wednesday when the group fled upon seeing the police officers. Reports indicate that the police chased after them while firing randomly, resulting in the deaths of three individuals.
Meanwhile, the remaining five members of the group sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the St. Elizabeth Hospital mortuary.
In response to this incident, the youths of Acherensua have taken to the streets, blocking major roads and protesting to demand justice for the victims.
