A 28-year-old trader, Monica Ampomah, has been remanded into police custody by the Assin Fosu District Court for allegedly inflicting cutlass wounds on her 10-year-old daughter.
The accused is alleged to have assaulted the Class Five pupil with a cane and a metal rod before cutting her on the head, hand and finger with a cutlass.
The prosecution told the court that the accused suspected that the child was being sexually abused and was concealing information about the alleged abuse.
The injured girl reportedly sought refuge with her school proprietress, who arranged for her to receive medical treatment at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital and subsequently reported the incident to the Central North Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
Monica Ampomah has been charged with causing harm.
The court ordered that the accused undergo a mental examination to determine whether she was fit to stand trial.
She is to reappear before the court on September 3, 2026.
