Indelible Ink: Should You Use It or Not?

The purpose of introducing Indelible Ink into voting activities in Ghana is to mark the finger of a voter who has cast their ballot at a particular polling station. It also serves as an identification tool. The use of Indelible Ink is an important security measure that helps prevent double-voting, multiple voting, and election malfeasance.

Ignoring the use of Indelible Ink in the 2024 national elections, along with the existing vulnerabilities associated with digital devices, such as biometric verification machines, could increase the risk of election fraud. Waving this key security measure has the potential to raise critical issues related to transparency, fairness, and election fraud risk, which should be avoided.

We need to be mindful and proceed with maximum care and thoughtfulness, especially when national elections have posed significant security threats to West African nations in recent years.

Richard Kumadoe, founder of Independent Election Security and Compliance, urges everyone to take election security seriously and work towards ensuring that our national elections are free and fair.
