Illegal Miner Jailed 6 Months for Stealing Phone at Wasa Bawdie

Prosper Agyasi, a 24-year-old illegal miner, has been handed a six-month prison sentence with hard labor by the Wasa Amenfi East District Magistrate Court in the Western Region.

Agyasi was convicted of theft after being found guilty of stealing a mobile phone worth GH¢14,000 from a restaurant owner in Wasa Bawdie, within the Amenfi East Municipality.

Prosecutor Chief Inspector Abraham Ayitey revealed that Agyasi went to the restaurant on January 22, 2025, around 8:30 pm, with the intention of purchasing food.

While eating, he quickly snatched a mobile phone that had been left on one of the tables.

The incident was captured on CCTV, leading to Agyasi’s arrest.
The stolen phone was later retrieved from his Nigerian girlfriend in Bawdie.

Agyasi pleaded guilty to the crime and was subsequently sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor.
