The Nzema Youth Alliance (NYA) has expressed strong concerns over the Western Region’s exclusion from key leadership roles within the Ministry of Energy and its related agencies. Despite the region’s significant contributions to Ghana’s oil and gas industry, no representative from the area has been appointed to institutions such as the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Ghana Gas, and the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation. The NYA argues that this oversight undermines inclusivity and disregards the voices of communities directly impacted by energy policies and resource extraction.
While commending President John Dramani Mahama for appointing Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Emelia Arthur as Minister for Fisheries, the group insists that the lack of Western Region representation in the energy sector is unacceptable. They warn that this omission could lead to policies that fail to address the unique challenges and needs of the region. Given the strategic role the Western Region plays in Ghana’s energy landscape, the NYA believes its people deserve a seat at the table where major decisions are made.
The alliance is calling on the government to immediately rectify this issue by appointing qualified individuals from the Western Region to key energy positions. They emphasize that this is not just about political appointments but about ensuring fair participation and equitable distribution of opportunities. The NYA remains resolute in its advocacy, stating that continued neglect could erode trust in the government’s commitment to regional balance and inclusivity.
