The Ghana Cocoa Board has issued a statement to debunk rumors circulating on social media regarding an alleged increase in cocoa prices by the government.

A fake flyer has been circulating, claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, announced cocoa farmers would now receive 70% of the world market price. However, COCOBOD has categorically denied these reports, labeling them as completely false and misleading.

They urge everyone to disregard this misinformation and avoid spreading it further.

The Ghana Cocoa Board advises all stakeholders—cocoa farmers, traders, and the general public—to ignore the false information on social media and instead rely on official channels for accurate and reliable updates regarding cocoa prices.

The regulatory body aims to ensure that everyone has access to trustworthy information and will only share verified updates through its authorized communication platforms.

“Our attention has been drawn to a false flyer circulating on social media claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced an increase in cocoa prices. This information is completely untrue. We urge our valued stakeholders and the public to disregard this fake news and rely only on official communications from COCOBOD and the Ministry,” COCOBOD stated on its social media page.

This clarification from the Ghana Cocoa Board is particularly timely, as cocoa farmers and other industry stakeholders are closely monitoring the situation for any potential changes in cocoa prices due to fluctuations in the global market.

The global cocoa market can be volatile, with prices influenced by factors such as weather conditions, pests, diseases, and changes in demand. As a result, industry players are always vigilant for updates that could impact their livelihoods and businesses.

In this context, the Ghana Cocoa Board’s statement serves as an important reminder to rely on official sources for accurate information rather than speculation or rumors circulating on social media.
