Felix Gyamfi, the Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA), has announced that all prospective national service personnel must possess a valid Ghana Card to register. Without it, graduates will not be eligible for national service. This new requirement is intended to streamline the registration process, enhance verification, and ensure that only qualified individuals are enrolled.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, February 13, 2025, Mr. Gyamfi emphasized that this directive is part of the NSA’s broader effort to eliminate “ghost names”—fake or duplicate identities that contribute to payroll fraud. By linking national service enrollment to the Ghana Card database, the NSA aims to prevent ineligible individuals from accessing state benefits. He stressed that these measures are crucial for maintaining integrity within the system.
The NSA boss also criticized the previous administration for failing to implement strict policies to prevent payroll fraud. He described the issue as a “leadership failure,” blaming past officials for neglecting the necessary checks to protect taxpayers’ money. “The necessary safeguards were ignored, and that’s why we are taking decisive action now,” he asserted.
