Fire Ravages Kejetia Market, Destroys Two Shops

A devastating fire swept through the Kejetia Market in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, destroying two shops in the F-Line section of the market.

The fire started around 3:59 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, and quickly spread, engulfing both shops and causing significant damage to the surrounding area.

Firefighters and market authorities responded promptly to the incident; however, the two shops were completely destroyed before they could contain the blaze.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is under investigation by the authorities.

Market traders and the owners of the affected shops are left reeling, with many assessing their losses.

The Officer In Charge of the Kejetia Fire Post, ADO 1 Ebenezer Opoku, confirmed that the cause of the fire remains unknown. In a statement to the press, ADO 1 Opoku mentioned that investigations are ongoing, and no conclusions have been reached yet.

Meanwhile, Nana Akwesi Prempeh, President of the Federation of Kejetia Traders Association, has advised traders to take precautions to prevent similar incidents in the future. He urged all traders to ensure that they switch off electrical devices before leaving the market, as this could help prevent fires caused by electrical faults.

The fire at Kejetia Market has resulted in significant losses for traders, and the Federation of Kejetia Traders Association is working to support those affected.
