DCOP Frank Abrokwa has been removed from his position as the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, according to sources at the Police Headquarters who shared the information with the media.
His dismissal comes in the wake of the chaotic Council of State election in Kumasi, where a group of thugs stormed the polling center, disrupted the vote count, and left considerable damage in their wake. It remains unclear what will happen next, but Abrokwa’s removal is effective immediately.
The voting process broke down entirely when masked individuals entered the election center, causing chaos and halting the ballot-counting process.
Electoral Commission officials were forced to pause the voting due to the violence. The unrest appeared to have been triggered by the unexpected loss of a popular candidate, which led to aggressive demands from his supporters for a review of the results.
The security team present struggled to maintain order, prompting the need for additional law enforcement to restore control and protect the electoral materials.
Reports indicate that DCOP Abrokwa has now been reassigned to the Police Headquarters in Accra.
