Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Majority Chief Whip, has taken responsibility for the chaotic events that occurred in Parliament on January 30, 2025, acknowledging his role in the disturbance.

During his appearance before the ad hoc committee on Monday, February 10, 2025, Mr. Dafeamekpor expressed remorse for the chaos, recognizing the negative impact it had on Parliament’s reputation.

He accepted his suspension gracefully, acknowledging his mistakes and the consequences that followed, demonstrating genuine regret for his part in the disturbances.

“I take responsibility,” he said. “When my punishment was announced, I accepted it in good faith. Some disagreed, arguing that I should not be the one punished. However, I believe that leaders should indeed be held accountable for what happened. There was a failure in consensus building that night.”

Dafeamekpor placed some blame for the chaos on the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, accusing him of adhering too rigidly to his own methods. “If my counterpart, the Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, had been more flexible instead of insisting on his approach, we might not have experienced such chaos. His insistence led to the destruction of tables and other disturbances. What could I have done but accept the punishment for it?”

“Much needs to be improved,” he added, citing the lack of consensus as a primary reason for the turmoil on January 30.
