Speaker Alban Bagbin has responded to accusations of being overly authoritarian, similar to a headmaster, following his suspension of four MPs for misconduct decision that has generated considerable controversy.

During a session in the House on Tuesday, February 4, Speaker Bagbin expressed his disapproval of these claims.

He emphasized the importance of strong leadership and discipline in Parliament.

“Some members of the House have labeled me a headmaster, treating Honourable Members like students. I reject that characterization,” he stated.

He added, “Where there are students, there must be a headmaster. Without a headmaster, we know what can happen to the school.”

Bagbin further remarked, “To whom much is given, much is expected. You are not called Honourable for nothing. People expect a great deal from you. And remember, there is life after Parliament.”
